Discovering the problem

Business owners often struggle to find trustworthy dispatch riders to deliver their goods on time without going through a logistics company.

Business owners also complain about logistics companies failing or providing late deliveries of their items to their customers making business owners disappoint their customers.

Early Research

To gather initial information, I had informal discussions with two small business owners. Miss Kettykollectionsng and Wimart global venture, During these conversations, I aimed to better comprehend the problem they were facing and explore potential solutions that would be most effective.

The picture above displays an Instagram post where a small business owner apologizes to her customers for a delay in their deliveries caused by the riders she hired.

Solution

To address the problem, I identified the first step as creating a system that enables business owners to easily find, book, and track their preferred dispatched riders directly, bypassing the need for a logistics company.

Additional Considerations

I realized that for the solution to work, riders need to be willing to deliver items directly to customers on their own.

This made me decide to conduct further research.

Additional Researchs

I interviewed five riders - Mr. John, Mr. Kenneth, Mr. Sam, Mr. Joseph, and Mr. Isaac - who currently work for a logistics company. My goal was to understand their openness to the idea of working independently.

Insights

After interviewing the riders, here are the key insights I gathered:

All of the interviewed riders expressed their enthusiasm for the idea of working independently, showing a 100% positive response.

Competitive Analysis

As I focused on the solution, I examined the apps of my indirect competitors (since there was no direct competitor) to gain a deeper understanding of their strengths and weaknesses.

My goal was to use their weaknesses and turn them into strengths for the solution.

One of their weaknesses was providing low compensation to their riders.

Gokada.jpg

Operates as a logistics. They don't provide riders with independent delivery.

Rida.jpg

Their system lacks safety measures. The registration process for riders does not ensure a secure method for tracking them.

This brought me to the question

How can we create a system that allows business owners to easily find, book, and track their preferred dispatched riders without relying on a logistics company?

24-year-old statistics student and a small business owner

Joy is a 24-year-old statistics student and a full-time small business owner with parents and siblings. Joy tries to manage her schooling with her business.

She is frustrated with her experience with most logistics companies and dispatch riders of them not delivering as supposed.

Joy wants a that the riders can be put in check to make sure they deliver as planned as well as a way to easily cancel in time when they fail to arrive for pick up.

All Jane wants is a system that will help put the riders in check to make sure they deliver as supposed.

Early Set Back + New Direction

Initially, I began developing a website view. However, upon considering its impact on meeting the needs of users,

I recognized that a website view would present challenges for both business owners and riders in terms of usability.

So I switched to a mobile app view.

Paper Sketches

After concluding the solution from what I learned from my research findings, I decided to sketch out some design layout ideas for the home screen

Design system

Knowing how complex the designing of the app will be, it was important to create a design system based on reusable components and their states to make the design easy both for me and for developers if the project ends up being developed.

Low fidelity design

The sketch made it easy for me to jump into Figma and start designing the Lo – Fidelity designs.

Improvements after usability study

Users were confused about finding their past activities because of the term "Your Delivery."

To improve the product's usability, I changed the language to make it clearer and more user-friendly.

What I Learned?

Working on this project, I learned that:

1. Understanding and meeting user needs is an ongoing process that requires constant iteration. It's crucial to remain open to making improvements as long as the current solution doesn't fully satisfy the user's needs.

2. Studying competitors' apps and recognizing their weaknesses is an essential step in developing a solution that can effectively meet users' needs and provide unique advantages.

Thank you for reviewing my portfolio, and I hope to hear from you soon if I meet the criteria you are looking for.
